Letter from the President Welcome to the web site of Community and Court Interpreters of the Ohio Valley (CCIO). Incorporated on October 24, 1997, CCIO is a non-profit professional association of community and court interpreters joined by one same principle: to improve as professionals and help further our profession as a whole, as we positively impact the quality of interpreting in Ohio and nearby states. CCIO members strongly believe that ethical standards, professional conduct, and commitment to continuing education, are at the core of any good interpreter; furthermore it is what distinguishes a professional interpreter from a person who is merely proficient in more than one language. Therefore, our goal is to provide opportunities for interpreter training, as well as educate the public regarding interpreting issues -particularly in the ethical standards that set us apart. In an increasingly diverse nation, administration of justice and public service sometimes require communication with Limited English Proficiency individuals (LEPs). The use of competent interpreters is essential to establish reliable communication. At CCIO we want to serve the community and the justice system by staying abreast of the latest regulations affecting court and community interpreting, and help prepare local interpreters to meet the required standards. If you are an interpreter, we encourage you to join our association to learn about training opportunities and network with other professionals. If you or your organization use the services of interpreters, CCIO can give you advice and/or refer you to other valuable sources. We invite you to navigate our site. Thanks for visiting us. Natasha A. Curtis, President Do you have a comment or suggestion? We'd be happy to hear from you!
